- Elections in India: Everything You Need to Know is a brief, easy-to-follow summary of the various processes that characterise the electoral format in India. It also includes information about bodies like the Election Commission that mediate our unique election process.
- The book is a useful tool for classroom situations, as it approaches the elections from all possible angles – their history, their civic and political significance, and the specific mechanisms of voting and counting. It includes instructions on how to conduct a mock election in school, and provides nuggets of information that could make for lively classroom activities such as a debates and quizzes.
- The book devotes a lot of space to talking about the current elections and their main players, but does not provide a well-rounded view of the situation. For instance, it suggests that the only main parties that matter in the national context are the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress, and makes no mention of regional parties which are as powerful, if not more, in their strongholds. Similarly, it lists many of the schemes undertaken by the current ruling government but does not offer any analyses or critiques of them, which may give readers the mistaken impression that they have all been perfectly successful. In presenting an overview of the contemporary political situation, the book is not as balanced as it should be.
