Inspired by a flurry of activity among humans because of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the birds of the park decide to have a Swachh Ghosla Abhiyan (Clean Nest Campaign). Inspector Owl goes on an inspection spree, but things don’t quite turn out as expected.

  • Less of a picture book and more of an illustrated storybook because of the textheavy layout, this is an attractive book with bright colours.
  • The story provides an opportunity to acquaint young readers with different kinds of birds’ nests, such as that of a pigeon, hoopoe, mynah, tailorbird and sunbird.
  • An activity or information page about bird habitats would have been a welcome addition to the story.
  • It is interesting to have the story connected with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, but this comes off a bit discordant as it seems to indicate that most birds have dirty nests. An explanation that what seems untidy or dirty to us may not necessarily be so in case of the natural habitats of animals might have been helpful.

An attractive and eyecatching story about different kinds of birds’ nests, though somewhat misleading in its use of “cleanliness” as a theme.

“For a teacher or librarian faced with dozens of books to read, a good book review website is as essential as maps are for geographers.”

Anil Menon - Writer

“Indian children’s books rarely get the kind of publicity they deserve in the popular or social media. Websites like Goodbooks plug the gap by not letting a single Indian children’s book of merit slip through the cracks. Most people would not even know about the books available in the market if not for a resource like this.”

“Book review sites like Goodbooks are a wonderful resource for locating theme-based or issue-based children’s books to enrich the learning experience in the classroom and at home.”
