ABOUT THE BOOK
What do Mimi and Gulu see in the sky? The sky is the limit as two children go cloud watching!SNAPSHOT REVIEW
- In Look Up, two children, Mimi and Gulu, lie on the grass and look up at the sky, and make up stories about the shapes they see. What emerges is a delightful picture book about the joy of imagination.
- The charm of the book is in its beautiful illustrations. They are simple, and yet very effective. The colour palette is made up of pleasing pastel tones, and the round, expressive faces of the children are drawn with gentle humour. However, it is the soft, shape-shifting clouds that are the highlight, and will surely capture the imagination of the youngest of readers.
- The simplicity of the story is another great strength. Look Up is based on a very straightforward idea and spends its twenty-four pages exploring that single idea in as many ways as possible. It wisely chooses not to complicate matters with a plot or a message of any kind.
- The bilingual text (English-Hindi in this case) is also both self-consciously simple, and does not interfere in any way with the rich visual experience of the book.
