Chomp! Chomp! Chomp! Little Billy Goat enters someone’s home and starts to chew everything in sight. He chews a shoe, a box, a toy, some socks . . . But when he chews an entire pack of bubble gum, he is in for a big surprise!

  • Little Billy the goat finds his way into a house and can’t stop chewing everything in sight. But an unexpected bubble gum bubble carries Billy into the air and he floats over the town. That is, until Sai the parrot finds a way to bring him back down. Billy Chews is a delightful story and makes for perfect read-aloud material.
  • Author Karishma Mahbubani’s use of rhyme in the text is simple, but charming. The lines feel spontaneous, and do not come across as forced. The rhymes make it easy to remember words by their sounds, and also make the text a lot of fun to recite.
  • Satvik Gade’s illustrations are lively and whimsical and complement the text perfectly. Characters’ expressions are varied and comical, and little Billy with his oversized head is simply irresistible. The story is as well told in pictures as it is in words.
  • Some of the words in the text may be a little difficult to contextualise for young readers. Words like “rubble” and “water mill” have very specific meanings and may not be things a two-year-old can understand easily (the prescribed audience of Billy Chews).

Billy Chews is a cheerful and easy read for the youngest of readers, with endearing characters and an imaginative storyline.

“For a teacher or librarian faced with dozens of books to read, a good book review website is as essential as maps are for geographers.”

Anil Menon - Writer

“Indian children’s books rarely get the kind of publicity they deserve in the popular or social media. Websites like Goodbooks plug the gap by not letting a single Indian children’s book of merit slip through the cracks. Most people would not even know about the books available in the market if not for a resource like this.”

“Book review sites like Goodbooks are a wonderful resource for locating theme-based or issue-based children’s books to enrich the learning experience in the classroom and at home.”
