A BOOK FOR PUCHKU

A BOOK FOR PUCHKU

ABOUT THE BOOK

Puchku has run out of books to read. Then she discovers more books in the top shelf of the library bookcase. But Puchku is small, and the bookcase tall. How will she ever get to her beloved books?

SNAPSHOT REVIEW

  • Puchku is a young girl who likes nothing more than reading – when she is eating, when she is in school, when she is in the bus, and even when she is having a bath! In Puchku, author Deepanjana Pal has created an adorable protagonist whom readers will love.
  • Puchku has a problem. She has worked her way through all the books on the lower shelves of the local library and now wants to reach the higher shelves. What follows are some truly imaginative, zany ideas that Puchku comes up with to get her books.
  • Rajiv Eipe’s illustrations leap out of the pages and draw you into the book. His quirky, bright illustrations bring the story alive for readers – be it when Puchku is reading here, there and everywhere or plotting ways to reach the shelves on top!
  • Eipe’s pictures sparkle with humour and Puchku’s expressions on every page have you grinning from ear to ear.
  • It was lovely to see Puchku reading some recognisable Indian children’s books.

CONCLUSION

An endearing picture book and about the inexplicable pleasure of burying your face in a book and spending hours in a library.

“For a teacher or librarian faced with dozens of books to read, a good book review website is as essential as maps are for geographers.”

“Indian children’s books rarely get the kind of publicity they deserve in the popular or social media. Websites like Goodbooks plug the gap by not letting a single Indian children’s book of merit slip through the cracks. Most people would not even know about the books available in the market if not for a resource like this.”
