When Sun was out people did things, but when Moon appeared all they did was sleep! Moon doesn’t like it. She wants to be noticed. So starting from where the three seas meet at the tip of India she goes to the mountains at the very top, trying to ruffle up waters and get attention. But it doesn’t work! She then follows the advice of her ocean friends and works hard at what she’s good at. She shines and shimmers, waxes and wanes – and soon people are singing songs and writing poems about her!

  • An imaginative story of what Moon does to get noticed when she sees Sun getting all the attention.
  • The excellent interweaving of fiction and non-fiction makes it a book that children can grow up with. The story will keep the youngest of them engrossed while the subtle sprinkling of facts (about the moon, the landscapes of India and our oceans and seas) makes it interesting as children grow older.
  • Proiti Roy’s radiant illustrations makes everything in the book come alive, be it the moon, the sun, the people, the creatures and the oceans. The gasp-inducing doublespread of the faces of the moon is a visual treat worthy of framing.
  • This picture book was shortlisted in the Best Picture Book: Story category at The Hindu Young World-Goodbooks Awards 2018.

Unhappy Moon – definitely not a picture book that will make any young reader unhappy and definitely not one that she will dip into only once in a blue moon!

“For a teacher or librarian faced with dozens of books to read, a good book review website is as essential as maps are for geographers.”

Anil Menon - Writer

“Indian children’s books rarely get the kind of publicity they deserve in the popular or social media. Websites like Goodbooks plug the gap by not letting a single Indian children’s book of merit slip through the cracks. Most people would not even know about the books available in the market if not for a resource like this.”

“Book review sites like Goodbooks are a wonderful resource for locating theme-based or issue-based children’s books to enrich the learning experience in the classroom and at home.”
